    Kansen rettô (aka Pandemic) (2009)

A teaser trailer (as distinguished from the intro video) for Takahisa Zeze's Kansen rettô was added last week to the official website for the movie.

The screenplay for Kansen rettô was written by Zeze. The movie stars (listed order corresponds to order on official website) Satoshi Tsumabuki, Rei Dan, Ryôko Kuninaka, Yûji Tanaka, Chizuru Ikewaki (Ikewaki Chiduru), Cunning Takeyama (Kanningu Takeyama), Akio Kaneda, Ken Mitsuishi, Midoriko Kimura, Kyûsaku Shimada, Bokuzô Masana, Dante Carver (Dante Kâvâ), Erika Mabuchi, Ayaka Komatsu, Akifumi Miura, Natsuo, Taiga, Kôichi Satô, and Tatsuya Fuji.

Here's a synopsis for Kansen rettô from Nippon Cinema: "Satoshi Tsumabuki plays an ER doctor named Tsuyoshi Matsuoka who receives a patient with a virus unlike anything he's seen before. [The patient's] symptoms include high fever, convulsions, vomiting of blood, and multiple organ failure. Could this be a new form of influenza or is it some other variety of virus? As the situation worsens and more cases begin arriving a medical officer from the World Health Organization named Eiko Kobayashi (Rei Dan) is dispatched to the area. At the rate the virus is spreading the entire city's transportation system and infrastructure would be brought to a halt within 3 months. Within 6 months it could spread to tens of millions of people - reaching a death toll far worse than any war. Can mankind put an end to this deadly pandemic?"

Toho Co. Ltd. (Tôhô K.K.) is scheduled to release Kansen rettô theatrically in Japan on January 17th of next year.

  2. The synopsis reminded me of Kansen at first, but after reading it all and watching the teaser trailer, the two movies seem to share very, very little in common with each other. This definitely sounds like a good movie and I'll be looking forward to it. Thanks for the heads up.

    A few more factoids:

According to Jason Gray (he's up on this stuff) the official international sales title is "Pandemic".

Back in May Tokyograph reported that a Hollywood remake was already being negotiated due to interest/hype generated by promotional materials at Cannes.
