Paprika (Japan 2006) (Satoshi Kon) I've been so unlucky to only see Tokyo Godfathers from his works. And since I liked it I'm interested in seeing - well - everything he's done, including this new movie which looks certainly interesting. Yup, new movie called Paprika from anime writer/director Satoshi Kon (Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers and "Paranoia Agent"). I've got zero clue what it's about though. Official site. http://www.sonypictures.jp/movies/paprika/ Teaser trailer can be found on the site, by clicking on the button on the far right. Stills. http://www.cinempire.com/multimedia/paprika/index.html
The film is apparently based on a popular novel of the same name. Here you can read an early review of the movie. It sounds quite complicated and something I could've expected Mamoru Oshii to do.
Sounds good, doesn't it? Wait until you see the French trailer...! It can be found pretty easily... here. http://www.paprika-lefilm.com/ Wait! There's more! Two tracks from the soundtrack - by Susumu Hirasawa who has done sountracks to Berserk and Paranoia Agent - can be found here for download. They sound mighty good. I'll end this post with a link to Satoshi Kon's interview at Midnight Eye. http://www.midnighteye.com/interviews/satoshi_kon2.shtml
Satoshi Kon sets new standards for film making, not just animation... I always look forward eagerly to his latest work. Paprika looks like just my sort of thing...
My friends and I are so excited for this  Only thing that's bringing us down is we have to wait until June 1st to see it (New York gets to see it May 25th according to the official site). Looks amazing though. Satoshi Kon is truly an incredibly visual writer/director, I loved Paranoia Agent. Paprika looks a lot like it
Paprika will be shown at this year's San Francisco International Film Festival as will Kore-eda's Hana, Im's The Old Garden, Lee's Ad Lib Night, and of course tons of other great and great looking films.
There is an interesting interview with Satoshi Kon in the last issue of Giant Robot magazine (with the pink cover). He really has a unique vision...
I love him so much! He and Susumu Hirasawa make the most execllent creative team. I get more and more excited for this one every day
Well... the French R2 release date is June 20th... it comes with English subs! Info from Twitch and Catsuka forum: Here are the pre-order links: Normal, Mega edition and Blu-ray (No English subs confirmed)
Oh dear. I just read this from Twitch, a follow-up article on the upcoming French DVD release. It would appear there are no English subs after all! Please read this and do what's necessary if you already pre-ordered it. http://www.twitchfilm.net/archives/010089.html
