Personality/Popularity: Park is openly gay and proud of it; however, he is a low-profile member of the Harvey Institute's gay community. He is actually quite shy and reserved, hypersensitive to other people's opinions of him. He is quite unstable and damaged, due to terrible events in his history. Consequently, Park finds it difficult to maintain friendships and is a loner, preferring to keep just a few acquaintances in his friendship circle. Inventive and good with his hands, but uninterested in academia.
Background: Born in Detroit to Caucasian mother and Korean father, an only
child; Park's mother died when he was only a few months old. Reasonably well-off
family - father a successful construction worker with his own thriving business.
Father relocated to Seoul to bring Park up amongst family, but following a period
of sexual abuse of Park by one of his brothers, relocated again to England after
having disowned entire family as a result of Park's abuse. Sent to Harvey Institute
after classmate from previous school informed his homophobic father that Park
was gay: father consequently all but disowned Park too, and had him sent
to the reform school to get him out of the house and away from him. His father
sends constant gifts of money to his son as pay-offs for staying away from him,
as he feels very ashamed of his son's sexuality.
